Portland Named Asian Hall of Fame Women In Sports Host City

 

Charity launches Women In Sports Scholarships for Portland student-athletes

PORTLAND, Ore., Aug 7, 2025 – Global legacy platform Asian Hall of Fame selects Portland as the host city of their Women In Sports Scholarships. Portland student-athletes of all ethnic and racial backgrounds are welcome to apply and will be recognized for overcoming challenges to excel in sports and stay in school.

Scholarship recipients will be honored at Asian Hall of Fame’s inaugural Power of Portland gala on September 12, 2025, at Waverley Country Club from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Presenters include Oregon State Representative Daniel Nguyen (Inductee 2024), Port of Portland Commissioner Katherine Lam (Inductee 2024), RAJ Sports EVP Karina LeBlanc, Miss Oregon Shivali Kadam, and other luminaries. The gala is sold out.

Scholarship recipients must be current team members in women’s soccer, basketball, or other Olympic-approved competitive sport. Students should be enrolled in a Portland public high school, community college, state college or public university, with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Individual scholarships range from $500 to $1,000. Sports teams of scholarship recipients will receive $500. One scholarship recipient will also receive an Asian Hall of Fame Golden Ticket with an additional $1,500 and workforce development opportunities within the Asian Hall of Fame network.

Established in 2004, Asian Hall of Fame recognizes Asian and Indigenous role models to strengthen inter-racial synergy and the next generation of trailblazers. Notable Inductees include Bruce Lee, Connie Chung, Kristi Yamaguchi, Yao Ming, Blackpink’s Lalisa Manobal, and the owners of Portland Thorns and Portland Fire: Marta and Raj Bhathal, Lisa Bhathal Merage, and Alex Bhathal. Asian Hall of Fame’s Women In Tech, Entertainment & Sports program has awarded $1.5 million since 2020.
